What do you do as a photographer when a friend reaches out and tells you she's just begun a relationship with a godly young man?

Well, if you can, you offer to take a photo for them, of course!!

We were going to see them at an event coming up, so I brought along my camera + excitedly told my friend about what I wanted to do for her & her guy.

The afternoon that I was going to take the photo, Ian and I scouted around the area of the event.

Things were not looking so happy.

We were on the outskirts of downtown.

In a converted strip-mall-building-church.

With a black, ugly, falling-apart parking lot.

"I'm sure there's something lovely in the back of it at least." I told Ian.

So we looked!

Well, if you call rusty black dumpsters, long, dry grass growing through the asphalt cracks, and chain link fences with a freeway for a background 'lovely,' I was right!

"I think the front is actually a better option," I decided.

At first glance, it wasn't much.

But having studied lighting so much came to my rescue that day. Before we had G&K come out, I asked Ian to "walk a few paces forward" "now back" "to the left," "one inch more," "now back about a foot" "actually, forward about... oh, maybe three inches..." before I found the perfect light.

Aaaah!!

It was a snap, and a snap, and we were done!! I took two pictures instead of one, cuz, you know, sometimes a photographer just can't help it.

You two are such a beautiful pair and I am *so* excited for the next chapter ahead of you!!

"Oh my GOODNESS Kina, these are so beautiful!! I don't know how you took an ugly parking lot and turned it into a surreal background, but just... wow! 🤣 🤣 You are crazy talented. Thank you so much. ❤️ " - Grace

Aaah, that was so satisfying to receive. I have accomplished my mission. I have successfully taken a beautiful photo in a parking lot. :))

May God be exalted,

~ Kina
