Behind The Name
Above The Heavens comes from the Scripture verses Psalm 57:5 + 11 which say,
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be above all the earth.
The purpose of life is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. At Above The Heavens I write to encourage myself and others to live for the utmost glory of God. I can't wait for the day when I will see His glory exalted above the heavens!
To The Glory Of God Alone!
May I ask you a question? If you died tonight, would you go to heaven or hell? This is a question we simply cannot ignore. Heaven is a wonderful place where God and His children dwell forever. Hell is a place where people who reject God will spend all of eternity. It's where they will justly be tormented for their hatred of Him.
Before we look at God's 10 Commandments to see whether we are innocent or guilty, we need to know who God is.
-
God is a Spirit (John 4:24),
-
He is the Creator of the world. (Genesis 1:1; Colossians 1:16)
-
He is one God, in three parts - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)
-
He is good (Psalm 34:8)
-
He is love, (1 John 4:8)
-
He is great (Psalm 147:5)
-
He is holy (Psalm 99:5)
-
He is Worthy (Revelation 4:11)
-
He cannot lie (Titus 1:2)
-
He is just (Deuteronomy 32:4)
-
He is merciful (Psalm 116:5)
-
He is gracious (Joel 2:13)
-
He is abounding in goodness and truth (Exodus 34:6)
-
He is the author of the Bible. (2 Timothy 3:16)
So let's see what God says - will you go to heaven or hell? Go ahead and look up Exodus 20:1-17. Have you broken even 1 of the 10 commandments? The Bible, which is the Word of God, tells us that murder isn't just killing someone - it is hating them in your heart. (1 John 3:15) Committing adultery is lusting after someone. (Matthew 5:28) Sin isn't just doing what we shouldn't. It's also not doing what we should.
"Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin."
~ James 4:17
There is not one person on this earth that has not sinned. (Romans 3:23; Ezekiel 33:13; Ecclesiastes 7:20; Psalm 14:3)
Sin means "deliberate disobedience to the known will of God." Because of His holiness, Our Creator gave us each a conscience that tells us what is good or bad. He also gave us the law in written form in the Bible. Besides this, God says that we all know that God exists, and what He is like by the things that He has made, so that we are all without excuse. (Romans 1:18-32) Therefore, every sin is deliberate defiance against God's authority.
God does not allow anyone who has sinned into heaven... that's bad news for us. Our sins, including idolatrous and immoral thoughts, are as numerous as the sand on the seashore. Even if we had the ability to erase every one of those sins except for one, that one sin would be enough to shut us out of heaven, because of God's holiness. The Bible tells us that hell is real, and when we die, we will only go to either heaven or hell for all of eternity.
God does not wink at sin. (Romans 1:18) It disgusts Him! He MUST punish it. (Romans 6:23) God has also appointed a Day on which He will judge the world. (Acts 17:31)
So, if we are full of sin, and God is sinless and cannot allow any sinners into heaven, can anyone go to heaven?
Though the Bible makes it clear that we cannot be saved by any amount of good works, (Isaiah 64:6; Ephesians 2:8-9; Psalm 130:3) God provided a way to Him over the abyss our sin created. This way is through God's very own Son. (John 14:6) His name is Jesus.
God requires bloodshed to erase sin... only He gave His own.
Jesus, the Son of God, lived a short, sinless (2 Corinthians 5:21) life on earth. He was rejected by many and died by crucifixion at the hands of sinful men who chose not to believe in Him. When He died, He faced the full wrath of His Father - that our sin evoked - for us. His last words on the cross were 'Tetelestai!' which is translated "It is Finished!" in other words, "the debt is paid!"
But God is not dead! (Revelation 1:18) If He were still dead, then our faith would be in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:14-22). But on the third day after His death, He conquered death by rising from the grave! He was seen by over 500 witnesses after He arose and before He ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. There is literally 'overwhelming' evidence that Jesus Christ did rise from the dead. I must put it straightforwardly - if you deny the resurrection, you're either suppressing the truth in unrighteousness, or you haven't done your homework. Here's just a little bit of homework for you:
Jesus said:
"In My Father's house {heaven} are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come a gain and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."
~ John 14:2-3
In the first part of the Bible, called the Old Testament, the way of redemption was through believing in faith that Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah, the Lamb they were waiting for) would come to take away the sins of the world. As a symbol of their repentance, (turning from their sin) they would sacrifice a lamb. Not only did it signify their repentance, it was a picture - pointing forward to Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.
Now that Jesus, the Christ, has come, we are saved by believing in faith that He DID come to take away the sins of the world, and that He rose from the dead on the third day. A sacrificial lamb does not need to be sacrificed anymore - Jesus is our sacrificial Lamb. What unmerited love He gives to us!
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
~ John 3:16
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
~ Romans 10:9-10
Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.
~ Acts 3:19
Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
~ Luke 15:10
If you humbly confess your sins to God, repent and turn away from them, and if you believe that Jesus died for you and rose from the grave, you will be saved from the eternal wrath of God to serve Him the rest of your days. Eternal life is God's indescribable gift to us - a gift that He joys in bestowing.
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
~ Psalm 32:1
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
~ 2 Corinthians 5:17
Which master will you serve? Will you serve the father of lies (John 8:44) or the author of eternal salvation (Hebrews 5:9) who cannot lie (Titus 1:2) and in whom there is no unrighteousness? (Psalm 92:15) Thank the Lord that the gift of salvation is offered to us, but even if it wasn't, and we went to hell anyway at the end of our lives no matter how well we served Him, God is the one to whom we should offer our all, because HE IS WORTHY! (Revelation 4:11)
Is God The God Of All Religions?
God Himself makes it crystal clear that not only is He not the God of all religions, but that there are no other gods at all! (Isaiah 43:11; Isaiah 44:6; Isaiah 44:8; Isaiah 45:6-7; Isaiah 45:14-15; Isaiah 45:14-25; Isaiah 46:1-13; Hosea 13:4)
