2019 Ohio Scriptorium

This is a combined broadcast and encouragement! Also, this is sort of a favor + shoutout to a lot of my blog followers, because a good percentage of the people at this Scriptorium also read my blog!

The Ohio Scriptorium is an event our family won't miss. Here's how it works:

1) They release the books for the event. This year was on the Life of David. There were chapters from 1 + 2 Samuel, 1 Chronicles, Psalms, and 1 + 2 Kings.

2) People madly sign up for afore-mentioned chapters.

3) Said people memorize said chapters (sometimes not just the week before, which is nice.)

4) People study chapters and create study sets, flashcards, and notebooks full of facts from such chapters.

5) People assemble from cities and states far and wide to hear the chapters quoted, (or acted out, or sung) one after the other, enjoy sweet, godly fellowship, and miss answering the question in the Game Show that they knew - by half a second - because their little brother - who didn't even study - buzzed in first (and answers correctly!) :D Oh, and play an epic game of Ultimate Frisbee and Scatter Ball! :D Not to mention hear two super encouraging messages that tie all that you learned together into something practical that you can take home, chew over, and apply to your life! And meet some amazing people.

In 2020, we are doing the book of Psalms!! So, if you live anywhere even close to the state of Ohio, I highly encourage you to learn more about this event here, and consider coming! Did I mention it's free? And the whole family can come? (And you don't have to quote in order to come.) It could be just the motivation to memorize Scripture you've been desiring.

Or, if you don't live near Ohio, there are also locations in Macon Georgia, Cheyenne Wyoming, St. Louis Missouri, Jackson Georgia, and Kansas City, Missouri. Find out more here!

Here is the slideshow from this year.

Also, here are the notes I took from Mr. Pentimone's sermon on Saturday. I would have included Mr. Alexander's from Friday as well, except I didn't bring a notebook and I couldn't remember much of it on Sunday afternoon when I got around to writing things down.

- DAVID: A MAN AFTER GOD'S OWN HEART -

by Mr. Pentimone

- David is not the only one who can be a man after God's heart. It's something we all should aspire to.

- David was a man after God's own heart, because he delighted to do God's will and repented and went on in righteousness by the strength of the Lord whenever he practiced lawlessness.

1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22, 1 Samuel 16:7, 1 John 5:3, Psalm 40:8, 1 Kings 3:14, Proverbs 4:4, Ecclesiastes 12:13, John 14:21, John 15:10, 1 John 2:3-4, 1 John 3:22, Revelation 22:14, John 12:49-50, & Psalm 119:47, 127 are verses that highlight the fact that a man, woman, or child after God's own heart is one that keeps His commandments and does His will. The phrase that stuck out at me was:

~ Strength Of Character ~

However, Mr. Pentimone was very clear that we can't do His will or keep His commandments unless we have been saved, and His Holy Spirit dwells in us. And becoming saved is a commandment of His (see the Bible :D) which we can't obey! (Because we're not saved.) Therefore, salvation is a complete act of mercy in His grace toward us that we RECEIVE (not work for, create, or earn) through faith alone, in Christ alone. Because Jesus obeyed the commandments perfectly, fulfilled God's wrath in our stead, and God credits His righteousness to us as though it were our own, all glory is due to Him ALONE. So, keeping His commandments and delighting in His will is not something we can do to receive the gift before we receive the gift. It is the outward evidence of the fact that the gift has been received... and really, the least we can do in gratitude for His worship.

Oh, worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness! ~ Psalm 29:2

I'm so, so thankful for friends who realize the importance of proclaiming the gospel clearly, even among Christians. Because even if every single one of us there was truly saved, how could we hear the gospel enough? As someone pointed out recently, it is not something we outgrow or get past. It is, in fact, the greatest story ever told, and ought to be our mind's home to come back to time and time again.

Oh, Sarah Johnson, are you there? I forgot to tell you that your piano playing was so beautiful! Thank you so much for playing - I sat in a room on the side once, when I was having difficulties with the slideshow and listened. It was so calming! Thanks! You can see pictures of yourself playing at 6:15, & 6:29.

Also, special thanks to Hannah Wright, Landon Beechy, Grace Johnson, Lydia Derby, Caleb Kauffman, & Royal Alexander (in chronological order!) for taking a couple of the pictures that I didn't want to miss while I was working on the slideshow (and playing Ultimate Frisbee.) :D

Okay! Enjoy your Tuesdays all you dear people!

P.S. This was my team for the gameshow *claps hands in glee, even though that was our ending score.* :D :D
